This week, we celebrate three extraordinary women who are making a difference in their communities and professions. Their stories of determination, entrepreneurship, and leadership inspire us all to rise above challenges and pursue our dreams with confidence and purpose.

Sylvia Opoku-Mensah

Caterer & Baker | Music Enthusiast

Sylvia Opoku-Mensah is a woman of many talents, blending her love for food with her deep-rooted passion for music. A devoted wife and mother of five, Sylvia balances her family life with her thriving career as a caterer and baker. Her expertise in creating delicious meals and baked goods has earned her a solid reputation in her community. Beyond the kitchen, Sylvia is an active member of the Church of Pentecost, where her faith plays a central role in her life. She finds joy in singing and listening to music, often finding comfort and inspiration through these mediums. When not cooking or singing, Sylvia enjoys adventure and drama movies, adding a bit of excitement to her already full life. Her story is a testament to the power of following one’s passions and creating a fulfilling life in both work and personal endeavors.

Evelyn Akwowotage

Founder & CEO, Wezaane Foods and Beverages

Evelyn Akwowotage is a trailblazing entrepreneur, the founder and CEO of Wezaane Foods and Beverages in Kumasi, Ghana. Her journey is one of resilience and determination, having overcome significant cultural and traditional barriers to become the first female in her community to pursue formal education all the way to the university level. Evelyn holds a degree in English Language Education from the University of Education, Winneba, and is a proud single mother to her son, Blue.

Growing up as the sixth child in a family of six siblings, Evelyn faced numerous challenges as a young woman seeking education in a predominantly male-dominated environment. Her perseverance, resilience, and hard work have not only helped her break through those barriers but also paved the way for other women in her community. Wezaane Foods and Beverages is known for providing quality, organic food products to its clients. Beyond her business success, Evelyn has mentored two young women—a nurse and a single mother—who are now thriving in their own food businesses. Evelyn’s story is one of overcoming the odds and lifting others as she rises.

Rebecca Afful

Administrative Professional | Founder, Administrative Professionals Network of Ghana | Author

Rebecca Afful is an accomplished Administrative Professional with over a decade of experience in providing executive support and office management. Her journey is characterized by her passion for networking and empowering others in her field. Recognizing the need for a support system for administrative professionals, Rebecca founded the Administrative Professionals Network of Ghana, a group that brings together Executive Assistants, Personal Assistants, and similar roles to foster growth and development in their careers.

Rebecca’s drive to help others succeed led her to author a book titled “Level Up Your Career: Simple actionable steps, strategies and tips to a fulfilling career,” where she shares valuable insights and strategies for professional growth. Through her work, she helps professionals gain clarity, competence, and confidence to transform their careers. Rebecca is dedicated to building bridges for others and creating opportunities for professional development, making her a true leader in her field.

These incredible women—Sylvia Opoku-Mensah, Evelyn Akwowotage, and Rebecca Afful—are role models for women everywhere. Their stories reflect the power of passion, perseverance, and a commitment to empowering others. They are living proof that with hard work and determination, women can rise to great heights, no matter the challenges they face.
